about this course:

If you’ve learned any Spanish before, you probably focused on learning the “stuff” of the language – grammar, vocab, maybe pronunciation.
Which makes sense. That’s obviously the first step.
But what good is all of that info if you can’t use it in real conversations with Spanish speakers? If every time you go to form a new sentence, you are racking your brain for the right sentence structure, the right conjugation, that word you can never remember, then you have a problem.
Your goal is to have natural conversations with real people… Right? Then you not only need to learn the grammar and vocab, but become confident using it.
And the only way to become confident having conversations in Spanish is to have lots of conversations in Spanish. The more you speak and have fun, the easier it is for you to understand - our tutor teaches conversational Spanish, with no complicated rules or grammar. When you speak to learn Spanish, it becomes real and functional!

about this course:

Join us in an exciting journey of discovery as we venture back into the Isle of Man’s prehistory to meet the hunters and gatherers of the Mesolithic (Middle Stone Age) Period.
Dating to some 10,000 years ago, these people represent the first inhabitants of an era when our Island became physically detached from the wider British Isles land mass, effectively becoming the Island home we know today. The presence of these people is known exclusively through the archaeological record – what they left behind in terms of the manufacture of weaponry and tools and deposited food products.
Several locally excavated sites will be considered, and how these might be better understood within a framework of other sites within the British Isles. Importantly, too, hunter gatherer activities must also be regarded as a response to changing climatic conditions and associated environmental responses.

The Isle of Man is home to the exclusive and iconic Tourist Trophy (TT) motorcycle road races. What makes riders want to respond to the unique challenge presented by the world’s dangerous circuit, one in which serious injury or death is an ever-present reality? What might be the meanings and values that competitors attribute to the existential risk that the TT constantly poses? Effectively, why do they do it!
A well-known term within TT culture is “the edge” (made famous in the video Closer To The Edge). “The edge” is about negotiating boundaries, the dynamic tension between control and chaos; that line between holding it altogether and potential tragedy.
Join us on an exhilarating ride as we explore and encounter “the edge” through the experiences and narratives of several leading riders.

The course is targeted at providing the casual Manx stargazer, who wants to know more about the basics of astronomy, the opportunity to learn how to identify the planets, constellations, and other objects in the sky. The course also looks in detail at the human exploration of the cosmos using manned and automatic spacecraft.
The Manx night skies are amongst the darkest and best in Europe. With little light pollution we can observe many fascinating objects including the Milky Way, which unlike urban areas on the adjacent Isles can be clearly seen on dark moonless Manx nights. This course is aimed at the beginner or the enthusiastic amateur or anyone who has looked up at the night sky with wonder and questions.
The course may include visits to places of astronomical significance on the Island and sessions if the sky is clear, may be held outside to enable students to see the objects visible that night for themselves.

about this course:

For centuries much of the Island’s population has been rural – living in the various villages or scattered across the island in often isolated farms and cottages. For many people it was a subsistence life, without enough land to support a family, so they were often labouring on local farms, going to the fishing or maybe working in the mines as well.
Discover more about how people earned a living, put food on the table and a roof over their head (and what was under that roof).
Explore how people celebrated, commemorated (and protected themselves) through the year and throughout their lives at both home and at work (whether on land or sea). When life could be so precarious and one bad harvest (either of crops or at the fishing) could be disastrous, people would do whatever it took to keep their good luck. So find out about the different ways people could try to ensure good luck, prevent bad luck, but also importantly have fun (a lot of folklore is about having fun... particularly for young people!).

Interrogate its significance in terms of the site’s wider landscape position? As we attempt to answer these questions, join us in exciting journey of discovery as we investigate the historical and archaeological evidence.
Learn how the site is intrinsically connected to the Viking colonisation of the Isle of Man and its institutions and structures of administration and justice.
The significance of Tynwald Hill can only be fully appreciated within the wider context of similar sites of Scandinavian origin elsewhere, namely Norway, Scotland, Orkney, Shetland, The Faroe Islands and Iceland. about this course:

Easter floral arrangements don’t have to be complicated. Most of the time, it’s about placing fresh blooms where they naturally catch the eye. They should feel light, hopeful, and intentional, not overdone. One well-placed arrangement can anchor a space. Multiple random bouquets can feel unplanned.  Seasonal blooms stay fresher longer and naturally match spring colors and mood.  Easter table floral arrangements should sit low so guests can see each other and be wide enough to anchor the table visually. Flowers should complement the table, not take it over.

about this course:

Within the Isle of Man’s rich historical and archaeological landscape, both Peel Castle and Castle Rushen represent our prime monumental structures. St. Patrick’s Isle, the location of Peel Castle, was an important stronghold prior to the construction of the Castle.
Architecturally the two strongholds are very different. What is it about their locations that are strategically so significant? Historically and archaeologically, both can only be understood through the lens of the Island’s Viking colonisation and the subsequent inauguration of the Norse Kingdom of Man and The Isles.
This story of intrigue is further enhanced by the later struggle between competing Scottish and English interests for control of our Island as a militarily significant outpost within the North Irish Sea. The importance of both Peel Castle and Castle Rushen cannot be viewed in isolation, but rather in terms of these wider influences exerting themselves from the nearby lands of Britain and Ireland. Let the stones of these citadels tell their own story!
